Ankle pain is basically inflammation or any sort of discomfort felt in the ankles, which occurs mainly due to sprains, arthritis, tendonitis nerve injury, gout or any infections. Ankle pain can be accompanied with few common symptoms like swelling, redness, tenderness etc. Sudden pain can occur due to trauma, accidents, sports and more. The severity of pain will depend on the kind of injury or problem that occurs in the ankle. Though consulting a doctor is essential, few things are to be followed at home to control the pain and inflammation.

Icing
The first and foremost advice by any doctor or expert would be icing. Applying ice to the injured area by wrapping ice cubes in a cloth will give immediate relief from pain and also reduce swelling if there is any. Applying Turmeric

Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, garlic helps in reducing pain and inflammation. It also boosts up the healing process. Mix one tablespoon of garlic juice and two tablespoons of warm coconut oil to make a paste and rub it on the affected area leaving it for half an hour. This can be done thrice a day for better results.
Arnica
It is known for its healing and anti-inflammatory qualities. Arnica oil can be massaged on the affected area thrice a day for better results.
Exercise
Exercise will help in loosening up the muscles and nerves in the affected area and will promote blood circulation. Lifting your leg several times by tracing the alphabet A for at least ten times a day and rotating the foot will help. Major exercises are to be consulted by the doctors before performing.
Vinegar
Vinegar reduces swelling and helps in relieving pain. Mix water and vinegar in equal parts and boil them. Soak a towel in the mixture and wrap it around the affected area. This can be repeated for 5 times a day.
Magnesium Sulfate
Magnesium sulfate reduces the time of healing process. Mix a pinch of magnesium sulfate in cold water and soak a towel in it, dab it on the affected area. Repeat the process for 20 minutes for better results.

These socks will prevent fluid collection in the ankles due to the pressure exerted and reduce swelling and inflammation. They will be available in any drug store for affordable prices.
Resting
If the ankle pain is due to severe trauma or accident, resting the ankles is a way for it to heal on its own. Excessive stress on the area might increase inflammation. Resting your feet in an elevated position will help in healing faster and increase blood flow.
