Babies have extremely sensitive and thin skin, which is prone to dryness due to various factors like the weather, harsh soaps, long baths and lot more. Dry skin can cause itching, inflammation, irritation and sometimes skin infections. There are a lot of moisturizers, lotions, and soaps that claim to control the condition of dry skin in babies, but it is utmost important to follow certain home remedies that are very essential and effective.
Here are a few home remedies to get rid of dry skin in babies:
Coconut oil acts as a natural skin moisturizer as it makes the skin softer along with bringing a healthy glow. Massage the coconut oil on the baby’s skin right after bathing the baby. This procedure will protect the skin from microbes and it also deep cleanses the skin. Sunburns and fungal infections can be cured by applying coconut oil.
Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera gel will smoothen the baby’s skin and moisturize it. It will prevent skin from cracking and flaking along with reducing inflammation of the skin. Cut a piece of the plant and squeeze the gel. Apply it gently with the index finger on the areas of dry skin. This can be repeated twice daily.
Oatmeal prevents moisture loss from the skin as it contains polysaccharides that form a protective layer. Along with acting as a natural moisturizer it also exfoliates the skin. Add 2 tablespoons oat powder to the baby bathtub water and mix well. Let it soak for 15- 20 minutes before bathing the baby.
Almonds contain antioxidants and vitamin E that helps in moisturizing the skin. Dry skin rashes and itchiness due to it can be cured with almond oil, as it gets easily absorbed in the upper layers of the skin. Massaging almond oil after the bath or even before bathing the baby will help in maintaining good and healthy baby skin.
They contain 63 percent of oleic acid which makes it an effective moisturizer. Avocado oil or mashed avocados can be applied to the dry skin areas of the baby. Leave it for 10 or 15 minutes before gently rinsing it away.
Virgin Olive Oil
Rub a palm full of olive oil on the baby skin gently after the shower. It acts as a barrier to prevent moisture loss from the skin as olive oil contains antioxidants. It also hydrates the skin making it healthier and beautiful.
Honey has been an age-old natural moisturizer; it also helps in curing skin infections. Apply it on the dry patches and rinse after it gets dried.
Drinking Sufficient Water
There is no better solution for dry skin than hydrating your baby. The skin will get rid of dryness and also maintain good and healthy glow.
Soak a towel in cold milk and put it on the dry skin of the baby, wash off the milk with another wet towel once the milk has dried. Rosewater can also be added along with milk. Milk contains lactic acid which exfoliates dead skin cells. It is also anti-inflammatory and soothes dryness and itching.
These home remedies have been proven to be very effective and also easy. They are easily available and also affordable compared to costly products in the market.
